Professional footballer, Marcus Rashford, has been awarded an MBE for services to vulnerable children during the pandemic.

Writing a heartfelt open letter to MPs, Rashford called on the government to reverse their decision not to provide school meal vouchers during the summer.

Using the hashtag, #maketheUturn, the open letter received 112k retweets and 308k likes on Twitter. The movement galvanised the public and put pressure on the government, causing them to change their policy.

Thanks to the footballer’s efforts, 1.3 million children in England were able to claim vouchers for free school meals over summer. A grateful Marcus Rashford tweeted, “Just look at what we can do when we come together”.
