Instagram Filters Out Offensive DMs | Vouch Global

Thanks to a new AI tool, Instagram is now able to automatically filter out direct messages that contain abusive phrases and emojis.

Once rolled out worldwide in the coming weeks, the new filter tool will be optional and can be switched on and off in a new section of the app titled  “hidden words”.

When turned on, harmful messages will be automatically filtered to a separate folder, rather than appearing in the main inbox. Users can then review and read, delete or report these messages.

Celebrities and public figures in particular are frequently the target of unwanted and abusive messages. With social media networks coming under increased pressure to put preventative measures in place, this update would be a welcome addition and set the standard for others to follow suit.
