TikTok has grown tremendously in 2020 and now boasts over 800 million active users worldwide. The social platform is known for its dances, challenges and comedy, but now music artists are leveraging TikTok to promote their new songs.
But why TikTok and not a platform like Spotify? With user generated content making use of trending ‘TikTok sounds’, 176 songs have now surpassed 1 billion plays on the platform, demonstrating how powerful it can be for musicians.
The top 10 songs which grew the fastest are:
- “Toosie Slide ” – Drake
- “WAP” (feat. Megan Thee Stallion) – Cardi B
- “Therefore I Am” – Billie Eilish
- “Lets Link” – WhoHeem
- “Say I Yi Yi” – Ying Yang Twins
- “Where Is The Love?” – The Black Eyed Peas
- “Whole Lotta Choppas” – Sada Baby
- “Adderall (Corvette Corvette)” – Popp Hunna
- “Mood Swings” – Pop Smoke
- “THICK” – DJ Chose & Beatking
Some of the songs are from mainstream artists, but some are from up and coming artists that have hopped onto trends to get their music known – a clever tactic which has propelled their song to over 1 billion streams!
The TikTok community gravitates to songs that are confident, empowering, unique and danceable. It should be no surprise that TikTok’s most popular artists of 2020 are experts at creating these kinds of bops.
